The BMW Motorrad Concept R18 is anything but your typical motorcycle, yet it’s timeless, classic and retro at the same time. Let’s take a first look at this BMW concept.
The R18 Concept is a BMW in original form. The designers kept anything unnecessary off of the bike. That left room for a complete focus towards the components left on the bike. You get a perfect view of the boxer engine, exposed universal shaft, cradle frame and drop-shaped fuel tank. Then, large spoke wheels were added to provide solid grounding and ideal balance. This classic style reminds us of the BMW R5.
What you will love the most is the newly created two-cylinder 1800cc boxer engine. It inspires memories of the flat twin engines BMW Motorrad once used in the 1960s. Instead of leaving it as-is, the engineers created the transmission and engine block out of glass bead-blasted aluminum. Then, hand-polished aluminum parts accent the belt guard and valve covers. You will also see the chrome-plated universal shaft that connects the drive to the back wheel.
Finally, take notice of the classic paint scheme applied. The hand-painted white lines adorn the fork and fuel tank. Then, a black base is added complete with delicate yellow-gold varnish for the brighter lines. This Concept bike just furthers proves why BMW Motorrad is a leader in bike innovation.
