The defining characteristic of the 2021 BMW R18 is its engine, which is integrated elegantly as a styling element. The front of the engine features the BMW roundel prominently at the front and a badge reading 1800cc on the sides. The exhaust pipes flow out and back from the protruding cylinder heads and finish in beautiful fishtail silencers. The R18, paying homage to BMW’s motorcycling past, features an iconic two-cylinder boxer engine that benefits from modern BMW engineering like electronic fuel injection and excellent engine management systems to deliver power and refinement. The boxer engine churns out 91 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 116 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, meaning the R18 is ready and eager to respond to the throttle. The power is routed to the rear wheel through a gorgeous open-drive shaft system with a nickel-plated driveshaft, providing a smooth and immediate response. BMW also fits modern riding technology like automatic stability control to improve safety, plus three riding modes that adjust the throttle and brake response to match riding conditions, such as when riding in the rain.
